My Secret Library

Sometimes I dream that there's a room in my house, or a building downtown, that I've never seen before. It's always a wonderful space, full of inspiration and creative potential.

It feels like I've found one in real life. You know, every day I take Daisy to town for half an hour of practice on the pipe organ at an old brick church. Last week I realized that there is an empty library room right there, with a big empty table, big windows full of sunlight and flowers, and absolute silence. I have pulled my notebook of poems out and gotten busy.

A dedicated time and place? That works.

This is a recurring dream I have, and I'm so interested in the psychology behind it. I am in my house (often not exactly like my real house) and I open a door and find an amazing, wonderful, big, light-filled, empty space. And it's for me, for creative things. I've always figured it's because we live in a small house where every single room is used to the max. One of my best friends also has this dream (and is also a small-house-living writer) and recently DID discover extra rooms in her house: her landlord offered to let her rent the first floor of the house she was renting, so now she has a beautiful, light-filled office! A dream come true!

So I can fully appreciate the thrill of finding an Empty Space to use for creative things!! Wonderful!

I literally have that same dream, that I stumble across a room that I never knew was there. Enjoy your secret room!

My youngest is now 27, married, and a father to the cutest one year old. When we were homeschooling and he took classes at the Community College (to get ready for University), I would wait for him at a favorite corner of their library. It was more modern than my usual style but all the windows had a beautiful view and lots of sunshine.

Sometimes I still miss that reading space, even though I turned his bedroom into a Study of my own after he was married. There is just something about a room away from home with lots of books.

How wonderful! I'm sure there will be all kinds of 'riches' discovered in your poetry writing haven.

I've had that dream before. The last time it was a room in our basement with horses living in it!

I have exactly the same dream. Sometimes it is an attic room, sometimes an annexe that I remember all over again in each dream.
It is filled with the loveliest things. Sometimes the room has a stream outside. I marvel each time that I could have forgotten about this space. I haven't had it for a while. Thanks for the reminder. I can still see the room.

I'd love to have a quiet writing space. What a wonderful find!

I have a semi-dedicated sewing room now that occasionally houses a guest or two. However, I still find myself writing elsewhere when the muse strikes. Maybe I need to turn my room into more of a multi purpose kind of spot.
