Arbors

This is the week for the garden arbors to take center stage. Wisteria in the front garden:

Lady Banks' Rose in the back courtyard:

I do love to effortlessly enjoy the fruits of previous labors--not like in the vegetable garden where I am starting from not zero every year but way *below* zero as I confront the annual invasion of Bermuda and Johnson grasses. I have been spading out my planting beds all week and it's a lot of work!

Our vegie garden is just the same, I feel like we fight the same invasive grass every year and neither side is winning. In Australia your Lady Banks rose is called the Banksia Rose after Joseph Banks, a famous colonial botanist.

I'm envious of your season being so far ahead of me here in northern Japan. The snow is just melting and there are snowdrops blooming now. The daffodil bulbs are sending shoots up which are about two inches high at the moment. Our back garden which was veggies last year and will be a seeded lawn (well, a grass patch, anyway!) is still under half melted snow, and we can't set foot on it yet for fear of having our legs sucked down to the knees in spongy sodden mud... I can't wait to get going!

How beautiful! I'm ready to get started on our garden -- it is tilled and I'm hoping to get it fertilized this week.

I'm presently enjoying the fruits of the previous owners! I love perrenials! I have my work cut out for me with the veggie garden though too, especially since I'm doing it for the first time and learning as I go.

Your wisteria is beautiful! Our bulbs are just beginning to come up so it will be a couple of months yet before we have any roses. I've enjoyed reading your blog which I came across from a link on the S&S forum! ♥

Oh Anna - I am purple with envy! You wisteria is a vison of loveliness! Go you know how long it has been growing over your arbor? It seems to be wonderfully mature! We left a wonderful arbor when we moved from Canada and I long to go back and peek over the back fence and see just how my labours are faring - I so hope the family that bought our home are garden minded!
